Greater Nagoya GREATEST in FOODEX JAPAN 2012

【Overview】:

Greater Nagoya Initiative Center will cordially arrange the business matching with four local companies and organization of Greater Nagoya region in FOODEX JAPAN 2012 to support overseas market expansion and enhance the companies’ export business. “FOODEX JAPAN” (Organizer: Japan Management Association) set up the Made in/by Japan zone in 2011FY. This zone is designed to support import/export business of Japanese companies, and one of merits for the exhibitors in this zone is guaranteed business-matching arrangements with overseas buyers. Language support will be provided.

During the exhibition, GNI will support four Co-exhibitor companies and organization by staffing the booth and providing the interpreter services (English, Chinese, and Korean) to help find potential business partners for those companies and organization.

Greater Nagoya Initiative Center will also promote food industrial clusters in the region to international visitors.

The Chubu Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry and other organizations in Greater Nagoya region held the Central Japan Globalization Conference to promote overseas business development of small and medium sized enterprises. The Global Business Development Seminar took place at Mielparque Nagoya on December 21st (Wed) 2011 for companies who are planning to advance their business to overseas for the first time.

2. Infrastructure: Subway Schedule in New Year Holiday

The Nagoya Municipal Subway lines will be running all night on December 31. Trains come approximately every 30 minutes throughout the night.
An one-day pass (called a Do-nichi Eco Kippu) allows commuters to ride all Nagoya city subways and city buses all day on Saturday, Sundays, holidays, the 8th of the month, and between Dec 29 & Jan, and the price for the one-day pass is 600 Japanese yen.
If you first use a pass before 22:00 on December 31th, it can be used until 6:00 A.M. on January 1, and if you first use a the pass after 22:00 on December 31, the ticket can be used until the last train on January 1st.

The Japan International Aerospace Exhibition 2012 (JA2012) will be held in Greater Nagoya in October 2012. Greater Nagoya is Asia’s largest aerospace industrial manufacturing region.

The international cross-industrial trade fair, “Messe Nagoya 2011″ took place at Port Messe Nagoya from November 9th (Wed) ? 12th (Sat). As a result, Greater Nagoya Initiative exhibited three booths to enhance business matchings between global companies in the region and local companies.
During the exihibition, the FDI exparts around the world introduced the characteristics of their business environment to attract visiters who are interested in the business globalization.

This exhibition of still life, drawn entirely from the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, features European and American paintings and decorative arts from the sixteenth century to the present. It features 69 works of art including some the Museum of Fine Arts’ masterpieces ranging from Manet and Renoir to Kline and Braque. Familiar, easy to understand, and visually appealing, the still life has served as a platform for artists through the ages to express their artistic concerns and test their artistic mettle.

The Mie Prefecture International Seminar on Foreign Direct Investment was held on October 21st and was an informative and enjoyable success. President Lienhart of MAG-ISOVER, K.K. discussed his firm’s decision to locate a new factory in the city of Tsu and ways insulation can help Japan move toward an energy saving, green society. President Damashek of Nihon Cabot Microelectronics, K.K.. presented on her high-tech firm’s relationship with Mie and how the prefecture stands out. Governor Suzuki introduced Mie’s thriving business environment. At the end, guests enjoyed gourmet specialties made with the finest ingredients from Mie area.

– Establishment of National Composite Center in the U.K and Japan-

   Organizer: Chubu Aerospace Technology Center (C-ASTEC), Co-organizers: British Embassy in Japan, and Greater Nagoya Initiative Center (GNIC), Nagoya University will hold the Composite Technology Seminar – Establishment of National Composite Centers in the U.K and Japan.

   While practical use of a carbon fiber composite material in the Aerospace industry is widely adopted, the use of the material in various fields including automotive industry is expected. Meanwhile, in August 2011the National Composite Center is established near the University of Bristol, the United Kingdom, and with the industry-university-government cooperation such as AIRBUS, Rolls-Royce, GKM and University of Bristol, the efforts towards improvement of technical standard in the composite material has been made.

   Speakers at the seminar will be Prof. Michael Wisnom from the University of Bristol and Prof. Kevin Potter of the Advanced Composite Center for Innovation & Science (ACCIS) who will give us an introduction on the Establishment of the Advanced Composite Center for Innovation & Science (ACCIS) in the United Kingdom.

 In addition, Mr. Masayuki KIYAMA, Chief, Next Generation Division, Chubu Bureau, Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, will give an outline on the Establishment of the National Composite Center in Japan; the announcement was made on July 2011 that the Nagoya University will operate the center.

Workshop – Countermeasure of Nuclear Regulation for Exporter took place on July 27th at Nagoya Chamber of Commerce 5th Floor. The event was organized by Greater Nagoya Initiative, the Chubu Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, Central Japan Globalization Conference, Around Japan sea Economic Exchange Conference. The workshop introduced current economic situation of Greater Nagoya and testing services provided by the related organization in the region as follow.

Aichi Industrial Technology Institute has begun to measure radiation and issue the results of measurements. The candidates are industrial products manufactured by companies located in the region. Measurements of the radiation are needed to support foreign trade.

Japan Food Research Laboratories measures the radioactive iodine and cesium in food, drinking water, food additives, pharmaceuticals and feed.

Nippon Export and Investment Insurance are regulated by the import ban on trade in the destination country to cover the losses suffered by the cargo unit will not be recoverable.

Gifu prefecture located in the Greater Nagoya launched five next-generation energy infrastructure demonstration projects that combine multiple energy sources and new energy technologies. The semi-mountainous area project is at a hundred-year-old private house in the Meiho area of the city of Gujo, which is equipped with solar power generation technology, a fuel cell, a storage battery, and a small-scale hydraulic power generator and wood-burning stove, both which utilize the river and forest resources abundantly available in the area.

Softopia Japan is a major IT facility to support developing IT venture business in the Greater Nagoya. The businesses associated with Softopia Japan are able to use its vast network infrastructure to both use and provide a wide variety of services for business.

The activities of companies and the economic state of the Greater Nagoya region which is recovering from the effects of the disaster was explained to French administrative organizations, economic groups, and companies interested in investing in Greater Nagoya due to concerns abroad that the Japanese economy will be late to recover after the earthquake in eastern Japan, and the harmful rumors that have been spread regarding industrial products and other merchandise manufactured in the area.   In conjunction with this effort, at the Paris Air Show, Greater Nagoya Initiative (GNI) mission promoted the advantages of aircraft parts made by manufacturers in the Greater Nagoya region to top aircraft manufacturers overseas.

In cooperation with governments and companies in Japan, it is a great pleasure to inform you that the Japan Aerospace Industry Forum (JAIF) will hold a business matchings at the 49th International Paris Air Show Le Bourget. JAIF will promote advanced aerospace technologies and companies from Japan to the world under the direction of Chubu Aerospace Technology Center.

More than 20 Japanese Aerospace related small and medium size enterprises formed an organization called Japan Aerospace Industry Forum to promote their high technologies and products in International Paris Air Show – Le Bourget 2011 (June 20th – 26th)

Greater Nagoya Initiative will offer business start-up support for foreign-affiliated companies when foreign firms plan to advance their business in the Greater Nagoya region.

Applicant:
An applicant will be foreign-affiliated companies who plan to advance their business in the Greater Nagoya region with to meet the necessary standards for the criteria.

Targeted Expenses:
[1] Costs for procedural requirements for establishing the company in the Greater Nagoya area
[2 ] Expenses necessary for personnel recruitment, brokerage costs for leasing office, market relevance etc. research expenses, consultant fee for the market research etc.

How to Apply:
As a general rule, the application form is to be submitted to the Greater Nagoya Initiative Center before the procedures for company establishment are taken place.

Total Amount of Incentives:
GNI will offer incentives for targeted expenses below

5. Report: ACCJ Pre-Walkathon Event Greater Nagoya Industrial Tour in Gifu

The American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ) and the Nagoya International School (NIS) held the 20th Annual Walkathon and International Charity Festival for 2011 on Sunday, May 22.

The Nagoya Walkathon is the largest international event in Nagoya, and has inspired both Tokyo and Osaka to create similar events. This successful charity event distributed 5.5 million yen last year to local charities.

The ACCJ / NIS Walkathon and International Charity Festival are eagerly anticipating celebrating the 20th year in 2011. The Nagoya Walkathon helps to build bridges between the Japanese and international communities by bringing together over two thousand members of those communities to support the vital work being conducted by local NPOs and charitable organizations, by raising over 5.5 million yen to charities in 2009.

This money is used to support children and those in need in the Chubu Area. In 2009, despite the economic downturn, it has the organizers excited to continue at that venue, and set a goal to raise 8million yen in 2010. 8million yen is on track with the level of funds raised before the economic downturn and we need everyone’s help in reaching this goal, whether you are participating as an individual or as part of an association or company.

Before this huge international event, the Walkathon, took place, Greater Nagoya Initiative members welcome and coordinated the GNI Industrial Tour to introduce the regional attractiveness to the Governors of American Chamber of Commerce in Japan. The ACCJ members visited Shiraki Brewery factory, Great Buddha, and cormorant fishing at the Nagara river.

Shigeri Shiraki, the 7th owner of the Shiraki Brewery factory showed how they　advanced their overseas business with their products “Daruma masamune – aged sake” to the U.S and Italy. The ACCJ governors and Chubu members heard the story of how to make the aged-sake. And the ACCJ governors enjoy tasting sake at their shop.

After the pre-walkathon welcome reception, the ACCJ members visited Shiraki Brewery factory (Gifu-city), Great Buddha  (Gifu-city),and the Nagara river for cormorant fishing  (Gifu-city), as GNI industrial tour in May 21st 2011.

Tohoku Region Products Exhibition” at Nagoya Matsuzakaya Department Store from May 25th to 29th, 2011, with the objective of contributing to the reconstruction of the areas damaged by the Tohoku Earthquake.

This regional products exhibition aims to provide a foothold for the economic recovery in the affected areas by supporting demand creation as well as promoting regional products from the affected areas, through the sales of such products, including certified products under the “Act on the Promotion of New Business Activities”, “Act on the Promotion of Regional Resource Utilization”, and “Act on the Promotion of Agri-Commerce-Industry Collaboration” in the six prefectures of the Tohoku region (Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi, Akita, Yamagata and Fukushima).
